Time to find out if they are actual manuals or “flappy paddles = manual transmission” manuals.

Do it! You won’t regret it!
I personally wish I could have my Fiesta and a 500 Abarth, but cant

I’ve seen a few articles over the years that the Kansas City airport occasionally has manual vehicles - and Advantage tried to get me to drive one there before I knew how. I think it’s legit.

No Fiesta with flappy paddles that I know of

Pffftttt....the Abarth would be the ultimate commuter! Think of all the nippy traffic zipping you could do! DOOO EEETTT!

When moving on to another car, our “ca r for sale” ad always includes the phrases “Three pedal” or “Shifty-clutchy” or “clutchy-clutchy” and people still expect flappies. People are dumb.

Manual mode on the shifter? I have only ever driven Fiestas with manual transmissions so I have no idea how the PowerShit is setup.

I drove an auto once, I can’t recall actually.

ha! i think that would go over badly. My wife has approved a replacement for the Forte though! I think in 2020 i am for sure going to get a 2019 Forte.
I think a new manual forte with AC and android auto would be a great long term vehicle for me. They are already at $16K

My check engine light came on the other day!
...and then it went off again. No codes stored. Yay altitude.

I have rented some 30 plus times this year.
F or a total of about 100 days.
From Avis, Hertz, N ational
From about 8 different lo ca tions.
And never ever did it occur to me to look for a MT car.

This will be rental #18 for me this year and this is the first time I’ve seen one offered.

So, does this mean that those manuals will eventually make it to the used car market?

As I typed my previous reply, I realized that I have always looked for the “ largest car” or the most premium car.
having spending thou sands of corpor ate $ every year means Avis preferred, Hertz Go ld Plus and National Executi ve Elite. And I am always super rushed trying to leave the airport that it never occurr ed to me that I should could look for a Manual.
Last 2 years, I have stopped twice at the counter to switch cars
- last week, switch SUV to sedan
- a few months back, r equest Mustang GT instead of the assigned Aval on.
Also National One- Two-F ree starts this week. So I doubt I’ll be going back to Avis Hertz

Ah, I’m cheapest available or the Thrifty Wild Card option. This is the first time I’ve rented from Budget.

I rented exactly that. Got a CVT Kia Soul.
Good luck.

...you have bad luck so I don’t have to.
(But also, still better than a Versa)

OK, OK, OK, I got this. Understood, Abarth is too small, SO...simple, you wait two more years and then legally import a FIAT Panda 100hp? :P

When I last rented a car I called and asked EVERYONE locally if they had anything with three pedals. NOTHING. Let us know if you get it

I almost went Turo just to get a manual car.
But honestly, being on vacation driving on busy freeways, and congested cities, in areas I don’t know, I was happy to be in a modern CUV instead of the manual Jetta wagon I was going to rent.
![]() 08/20/2019 at 21:54 |

I like the idea of Turo but not the risk. I’ve been fighting with my insurance company for over 3 months already regarding a dent on the hood of a rental car from road debris.

Here’s the issue:
T ravelling for work, spending time between airports, hotels, it gets hard to spend “enough” time to ask EVERYONE.
And, although some small mom n pop dealers, may stock a car equipped wi th three pedals, but due to ease of operation and time saving set-up I am relegated to the top three who’ll possibly never stock a MT car.
As much as I like to drive or rent cars (on corporate dime), I’d like to spend the least amount of time on the ren tal lot.
C ase in point:
I try giving business to AVIS at certain airports and Hertz at certain other airports because their car rental shuttle is except ionally frequent. S ave 3-5 minutes. And if I tell them Avis preferred plus or H er tz president’s circle they start moving as soon as I settle down, not waitin g for any more passengers to fil l their shuttle. That’s another 2-5 minutes at least.
When we enter the lot, with Avis / Hertz I have a veh ic le assigned so I get dropped to the parked rental car - no counter bullshit and just drive off as I validate my DL at the gate. With National, thei r executive lot is typical ly right next to the entrance and I get dropped off, pick any car and at times, even checkout the car on my phone and off I go.
All this saves a lot of time. And it’s important considering I do that 4-6 times a month.
